Chris O'Donohue
Chris O’Donohue,
Owner / President
Chris O’Donohue has over 15 years of experience in the landscape and horticulture industry. He founded The Great Canadian Landscaping Company in the year 2000. Chris holds the designation of a Certified Landscape Horticulturist in accordance with the Statutes of the Province of British Columbia and is currently completing his Certification as a Landscape Professional (CLP) with the BCLNA. A North Shore resident since he was a toddler and currently resides in Edgemont Village. He serves his community proudly through the ALSdirective.org and with Vancouver Coastal Health’s Edible Garden Project as a committee member of the Table Matters working group, which is responsibe for educating the communty about the importance of local food production. He has also served as the Vice President of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #44 and was on the Board of Directors with TB Vets. In 2011, Chris was awarded “Business Person of the Year” from the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce. In 2010, his company was awarded “Service Excellence” from the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce. Chris is proud of his entire team of dedicated staff which contributed to these achievements. He works hard to ensure customer satisfaction through his continued improvement in education and systems that are implemented at Great Canadian Landscaping.
Jason Black
Jason Black,
Vice President of Operations
Jason Black has over 25 years of experience in business management, specializing in marketing and business development. He owned and operated Newsagents (Global News) in Park Royal Shopping Centre for 13 years and thereafter worked as General Manager and Assistant Vice President for a large Vancouver based Property Management Company. Today, Jason is Vice President of Operations for The Great Canadian Landscaping Company and is responsible to attract and retain long-term quality clients for the company through the development and implementation of a marketing delivery system, staff development, support services and legal technical advice that fulfill the company’s marketing message and contractual obligations to clients and the company’s financial and strategic objectives. Jason has previously been President of the Park Royal Merchants Association, a Director of the Coho Festival and currently sits on the Executive as President of the West Vancouver Chamber of Commerce.
Mario Hristov
Mario Hristov,
Office Manager / Accountant
Mario Hristov was born and raised in Sofia, Bulgaria, known as ‘The Land of Roses’, which is why he sees The Great Canadian Landscaping Company as a perfect match for him. For hundreds of years his native country has been amongst the major producers and exporters of precious rose oil. Mario felt in love with Canada over ten years ago and now lives with his wife Veneta and his daughter Liana in North Vancouver.
Mario brings to the company a distinctive set of financial management skills. He holds a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Economy and a minor in Finances and Accounting and a Master’s degree with a major in Marketing and a minor in Marketing Management from Bulgaria. In addition, he has successfully completed a two-year diploma in Financial Management, Professional Accounting option, at BCIT. A life-long learner, Mario is on his way to receive his Canadian professional accounting designation. As a proud new Canadian, Mario is committed to his local community. He serves as Treasurer on the Board of Directors for local chamber choir Laudate Singers.
Mark Justice

Senior Project Manager
Mark Justice is responsible for overseeing the construction and installation crews at The Great Canadian Landscaping Company. Mark joined the company after spending the last 2 years of his now 6 year second career as the project manager for a landscape design and installation company. His construction of that company’s display for the BC Home and Garden Show won the 2012 “Best Small Space” Award. He draws from his 25 years of experience in the financial services industry to make sound decisions in time and resource management. Mark is the first off-site contact for Great Canadian and his focus is on ensuring quality work and complete satisfaction for the company’s clients.
Omar Garcia
Omar Garcia,
Project Manager / Estimator
Omar Garcia brings over 15 years of experience in residential landscape construction and maintenance. He joined Great Canadian Landscaping four years ago. Has a practical background and great patience on training his crew and taking care of clients. Omar is the on-site manager that oversees the projects from start to finish. He holds an A.S. degree in Landscape and Ornamental Horticulture. He obtained his landscape horticulturist title with a red seal endorsement in accordance with the ITA training authority. Omar grew in a small town in Chihuahua Mexico, were he learned to work hard since he was six years old. He moved to Canada five years ago. He got most of his landscape training and education in California where he lived for more than 16 years. He enjoys playing soccer and currently coaches his eight year old son’s soccer team on the North Vancouver league.
Josh Long
Josh Long,
Landscape Designer
Josh is a graduate of landscape design and brings over 4 years of landscape design training and experience. His studies include the design and development practices of commercial, institutional and residential landscapes using programs such as Google SketchUp, Landscape Architect, Dynascape and AutoCAD. His education includes skills in drafting, computer illustration, design theory – of both hardscape and softscape, as well as field construction experience. His academic tenure includes the completion of an Advanced Diploma in landscape design, landscape design program certificate from Positivo University, Brazil and course completion in visual arts and photography. His passion for art, nature and travel has led him throughout Europe and across Canada to the west coast, where he is very proud to be a part of the GCL team. Josh’s design inspiration is drawn from these interests, which assist him in creating outdoor spaces both aesthetically pleasing and functional to the unique lifestyles of each individual client.
Heather Pelz
Heather Pelz,
BCSLA Intern, Landscape Design Assistant
Heather Pelz began her career with a small property maintenance company in Muskoka and worked her way through garden centres and nurseries learning horticulture and design. This led her to complete a degree in Landscape Architecture at the University of Guelph. Now, after many years away, Heather has returned to her native British Columbia with a passion for planting design and a fascination with the colours and textures of the landscape. She is very excited to be part of the growing GCL team, and is thoroughly enjoying all the north shore has to offer. She volunteers with the BCSLA as an intern representative on the Board of Directors, and with Community Studio, doing non-profit, community-based design. Outside of design work Heather can often be found balancing upside down with a small troupe of acro-yoga junkies. She enjoys big dogs, spicy food, music with soul, and books about plants.
Mark Takahashi

Irrigation Specialist
Mark Takahashi brings 5 years of commerical lighting and design experience to the company, as well as a background in Sustainable Development. Like a rising pheonix, Mark has risen through the ranks to eventually end up at the helm of our Lighting and Irrigation department. Formerly working in the Alternative Energy field, Mark continually strives to incorporate Green technology in with progressive Lighting and Irrigation techniques and principals. In his seldomly utilized off-time, Mark enjoys racing cars, and camping with his dog Charlie.
Satomi Oshida

Having grown up in a small town of Iwate Prefecture in Japan, Satomi had always been curious about the rest of our great world. She had an opportunity at the age of 16 to visit Canada and instantly liked Canada because of its cultural diversity. She was very good at English in school, and it was her dream to one day pursue her post-secondary education in a different language. She returned to Canada in 2005 to do just that and in 2008 made the Dean’s list for Academic Achievement in Tourism Management at Capilano University! She jumped started her career in Canada, working as a Visitor Information Counselor at the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce and Grouse Mountain to name a few. She likes that everybody in the west is laid back and not stressed like the people in Japan. She loves having both the ocean and mountain in one place, particularly the ocean because she grew up in the woods. She regularly walks and bike rides throughout our great city and when the opportunity arises, love to camp.

Kayzia Wister holds a BA in Communications from Simon Fraser University. While earning her degree she worked as a Field Representative for several marketing companies, promoting dozens of well-known brands. As a recent graduate, she is excited to be the Office and Marketing Assistant for The Great Canadian Landscaping Company. She provides an upbeat and can-do attitude to ensure an efficient, productive and cheerful work environment. When Kayzia isn’t working you can find her exploring local trails and biking the seawall. Having grown up on the North Shore, Kayzia is thrilled to work with Great Canadian Landscaping in beautiful North Vancouver.

Landon Giesbrecht has spent the last 12 years working with The Great Canadian Landscaping Company and has over 25 years in the Agriculture and Horticulture field. Landon grew up in a small farming and lodging community, where he discovered his passion for the industry. Before coming to Great Canadian Landscaping, he spent time working on various golf courses, and was employed with the district of West Vancouver. Landon enjoys working for Great Canadian and loves his position as a foreman/supervisor for the maintenance division. In addition, he is always continuing his education with B.C. Landscaping and nursery associations.

Derek has worked in the landscaping industry for over ten years with a focus on lawn and garden maintenance. He spent five years running his own maintenance company, which maintained 82 properties on a weekly basis. This is a second career for Derek as he was previously employed as a manager in a bank. Derek was born and raised on the North Shore and now lives in the Parkgate area with his wife and 2 1/2 year old son. When he is not working, he enjoys camping on Harrison Lake with his family.

Hayley completed her Red Seal apprenticeship this year and is now a certified Landscape Horticulturist. She has a deep passion for plant life and strives to encourage everyone in her life including clients, friends, family and even strangers to join the “green” movement. She excels at proper pruning techniques and plant identification. With a keen eye for detail and an open and adaptable attitude, Hayley keeps our inboxes flooded with positive feedback from new and existing clients. Although she was born and raised in Airdrie Alberta, Hayley has spent the last 7 years living in North Vancouver, making the shore her new home. In her spare time she plays the bass guitar and sings, rides her bike and enjoys the sun when she can at the beach. P.S. She does have tattoos, but she is still very approachable and even incorporates her love for greenery into her permanent artwork. Do not be frightened.

Chris has 25 years experience in the Residential and Commercial construction industry including building envelope investigation and repair. He holds the Certification of Architectural Draftsman and has worked for various architects across Canada. He has designed and built numerous homes, outdoor living projects and renovations and enjoys working with customers to achieve an efficient and enjoyable experience on their projects large or small.

Adam brings almost 20 years of experience in building construction to the team at GCLC. He has worked on the North Shore for the past eight years on high end, custom residential projects and many large commercial projects. Adam more recently dealt independently as a contractor working with clients on small home improvement and renovation projects until he became dedicated to working solely with The Great Canadian Landscaping Company.Adam was raised in a small prairie city, and now loves finding the similarities between there and the quiet, family oriented community of Lynn Valley where he lives with his wife and six year old son. When he’s not busy crafting custom backyard features, he can be found sipping coffee around Upper Lynn and exploring the Canyon
